How to Play Poker

Poker

The game of poker has a rich history. Its apocryphal origins are hard to pin down, but the earliest known version can be traced back to the 17th century in France, from where we get the English word “poker”. The game was adapted from the Spanish primero to play on a smaller scale and eventually made its way to the American colonies. It was brought to North America by French settlers and is now a worldwide favourite.

Before you can play poker, you must first place an ante into the pot. This is a set amount that you will put into the pot, usually nickels. Then, you will place bets in front of each other. The winner of a round of betting will be the player with the highest hand. There are no blindfolds in poker, and the winner isn’t always the first to make the bet. To play a game of poker, make sure to have a small stack of chips. Your ante is just one chip, while your straddle is twice the size of the first forced bet. The second blind is also known as the Big Blind. Hence, your first raise would be four chips, while the subsequent ones would be eight chips. Similarly, if you’re the one who raised, make sure to increase your stake before calling.
