You might be interested in learning how to play poker. Poker is a card game played with a minimum of two players, and as many as eight players are permitted to play. When playing poker, each player places a bet in the pot, or “pot”, that is, the sum of all of the bets placed by all players during a single hand. Winning the pot is the result of a player’s poker hand with the highest ranking value, or making a bet that no other player calls.

In poker, the dealer is not one of the players, but a token that rotates clockwise from hand to hand. The first round of betting is called a forced bet, and the player then has various options, including folding (losing the bet) or checking (declining to make a bet).

While the game is a game of chance, the addition of betting increases the level of skill. A basic primer on poker rules is meant to give a general idea of the psychology behind the game.
