The purpose of Poker is to win money by making the best hand possible from the cards you are dealt. Players bet until everyone else is eliminated. If the players are tied, the pot is split as evenly as possible. If there is a tie, the odd chip goes to the player who has the highest hand. In case of a draw, the pot is divided equally between the other players. However, if no one has a high hand, the odd chip goes to the player with the lowest hand.

The word poker is derived from the French words poque and pochen. However, it is not entirely clear whether the name is from one of the games with these names. Some sources say that poker has Persian origins. Indeed, it is believed that Persian sailors taught the French settlers in New Orleans the game. It is also thought that poker has Renaissance ancestry and shares a common root with the French games primero and brelan. Interestingly enough, the English game brag clearly descends from brelan. This game also includes bluffing.

The blinds are the amount of money placed on the table before the game begins. Typically, blinds are two-thirds of the player’s total bet. The blinds will rotate from player to player with each deal. The players can check the pot by placing some chips into the pot. If they want to increase their stakes, they can raise. If they are not able to raise, they can check the pot. This way, they can see whether they’ve won the hand.
